Today for Mr. Pollock’s 101st birthday today, I recommend watching this archival footage of the artist at work/talking about his creative process.

It’s crazy to think about all of the ideas that had not yet been thought of when this footage was shot — how exhilirating and overwhelming and confusing it must have been to conceive of an entire new way of creating artwork, as though opening a door to a vast new universe into which nobody else had ever traversed, stepping out onto nothing but a thin gangplank of curiosity and creative impulse.
